Blog Assignment #2: Light Observations

My first light observation came from Crystal Pier on Wrightsville beach. I went out there midday while the sun was still out, so we were able to watch the sunset. Being out on the end of the pier, I watched the sunset over the buildings. The contrast in both the light and colors between midday and sunset was absolutely staggering and great to watch. The sunsets in Wilmington are unlike the sunsets I've seen anywhere else; I don't know know how or why it happens but the lights and colors that are displayed in Wilmington sunsets are more vibrant than anything else I've seen. It was also beneficial to watch it set over buildings, as they provided additional scale and contrast to the light of the sun.

My other observation of light came from the moon on the same pier. After the sun went down, the moon lit up the sky and left a long silver streak down the ocean leading up to the moon. Being down at the end of the peir, and away from the buildings and city lights, the light pollution was almost non-existant, making the moon and the moonlight was bright and undisturbed by human touch. The moon was bright and uncovered, with every crater and detail in full view, that unfortuantly my camera couldn't capture. While the peir was dark after the sun set, it was kept illuminated by the moon's yellow and silver glow, and its reflection on the water.
