Master Shot Ideas

Nicholas Meyer Master Shot Ideas  For my role in the Master Shot Project, I am working as the sound operator. I am interested to work with the sound equipment and in premiere to create something unique for our project, as well as to learn more about how it works and how to do it properly. In terms of where my group and I are going to go with the script, I'm not sure yet, but I'm interested to bounce ideas off them and come up with a plan on how to handle it. I think it would be fun or at least interesting to have a wide variety of contrast between the two characters, both in terms of how they look and in how they deliver their lines. I would also like to experiment with the aesthetic of the shots and try and give the piece an unusual and unique visual style. In terms how specifically my group and I are going to execute this, I'm not sure, but I know for certain that I want our project to have a unique look and feel, different from the other projects in the class.

Blog Post 4: Vox Pops and B-Rolls

Nicholas Meyer Blog Post 4: Vox Pops and B-Roll Shooting our vox pops and B-roll was an interesting and unique experience, unlike anything I've done before. My group filmed on three separate occasions,  our interview, our vox-pops, and additional b-roll, however each time we filmed, we collected B-roll. When we filmed our interview, we filmed B-roll around the offices of Pheonix hometown hires, as well as outside the building. We filmed our vox pops at an event hosted by Pheonix hometown hires in a church near downtown. While there, we asked vox pops questions to participants in the program, as well as volunteers in the program. The best part of this experience was filming a vox pop with a UNCW student who was working with the program as part of her major. She was willing to speak and build off of our questions and was able to give a great summary of the program and her experience with it. We also returned to the Pheonix hometown hires offices and filmed additional...

Blog #3. Interview Plan

Nicholas Meyer Blog #3 Interview For our expert interview, we interviewed Mr.Rikard from Pheonix hometown hires, which is where we filmed the interview. We discussed unemployment in Wilmington and the opportunity that Pheonix hometown hires offers to the unemployed. For the tone, we wanted to set a serious, but also optimistic tone, and luckily Mr.Rikard was able to do that without any suggestion or prompting. While unemployment is a very serious issue, there is still hope and optimism regarding trying to find a job and take control. Mr.Rikard was able to describe this sense of hope with great detail and intimate emotion from his personal experinces. For our vox pops, we will return to the offices of Pheonix home town hires' offices and ask people participating and helping with Pheonix. Our current three questions we have for our vox pops are: 1.What about this process is different than searching alone, 2. What were your first impressions of the process? and 3. How is this ...

Blog Assignment #2: Light Observations

Image
My first light observation came from Crystal Pier on Wrightsville beach. I went out there midday while the sun was still out, so we were able to watch the sunset. Being out on the end of the pier, I watched the sunset over the buildings. The contrast in both the light and colors between midday and sunset was absolutely staggering and great to watch. The sunsets in Wilmington are unlike the sunsets I've seen anywhere else; I don't know know how or why it happens but the lights and colors that are displayed in Wilmington sunsets are more vibrant than anything else I've seen. It was also beneficial to watch it set over buildings, as they provided additional scale and contrast to the light of the sun. My other observation of light came from the moon on the same pier. After the sun went down, the moon lit up the sky and left a long silver streak down the ocean leading up to the moon. Being down at the end of the peir, and away from the buildings and city lights, the li...
